airDefender™ was born in the aftermath of the 2003 SARS outbreak. The company provides high quality and leading nano products, technologies, and solutions around the world. During and after the SARS outbreak, there was a clear need for a workable solution to protect everyone against harmful pathogens. Good sanitation is extremely important and the first line of defence in protecting ourselves.
In 2013, airDefender™ had a breakthrough and developed a Titanium Dioxide Photocatalyst in Quantum dot size − to lower the sizes of the solution to far beyond the Nano definition. This smaller size allowed it to attach to pathogens more effectively and improved performance drastically. Since then, airDefender™ began using this technology in commercial applications.
In 2014, airDefender™ was ranked by NASA* in 2014 as top 3 out of 47 samples of Visible-Light responsive (VLR) TiO2 -based catalyst. Our formula’s performance is 38 times better than other researched nano products.
In 2017, the brand airDefender™ started to enter the consumer market. We decided to bring this technology to people by developing a solution that could be used daily on human skin and personal accessories. airDefender™ solution’s size is only 5-8nm (Q-dot size) and it forms a highly functional protective film on the object’s surface. This shield inhibits the reproduction of bacteria, decomposes formaldehyde and chemicals emitted from everyday items (TVOC), deodorizes, and attacks mildew.

airDefender™ is the future hygiene solution that can kill germs and protect in one application. airDefender™is now commonly seen everywhere in Hong Kong. In 2020, airDefender has coated over 7000 Hong Kong taxis, 700 Hong Kong minibuses, all Star Ferries and Star Ferries Piers in Wan Chai, Central and Tsim Sha Tsui. We have also cooperated with the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to conduct research projects to investigate into the long-lasting and antibacterial efficiency of airDefender TiO2 Photocatayst Antibacterial and Anti-viral solution.
Our products are currently available in many other countries, such as Canada, China, Dubai, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Qatar, Spain, Taiwan, the UK and soon South America.
*Note 1:The paper issued by NASA Kennedy Space Center ECS Research Team, the performance of our product is approx. 40 times higher than traditional commercial nano photocatalyst product.
Ranked top 3 out of 47 samples of Visible-Light responsive (VLR) TiO2-based catalyst. airDefender® is the only commercial product in top 6 samples adopting Q-dot photocatalyst (Coutts et al., 2014)
